I noticed some interesting symbolism while I was reading. The musician tells Dean and Sal about a woman who was locked away in jail for shooting her husband, who later forgave her and bailed her out. Shortly after, she shot him again. This story is very similar to Dean's, in that people have fogiven Dean and given him another chance, only to be dissapointed. Perhaps Dean will delve upon this story and realize that it is not often one gets another chance.
