I don't quite understand the relationship among Dean, Marylou, and Sal. First, I thought Dean liked Camille, but then he switched back to Marylou in the middle of the trip. Then, he told Sal to make love to Marylou which I understand must be to see how Marylou acted with other men, but after that it says that Marylou was bruised and Dean was scratched so I don't understand that if Dean loves Marylou and likewise. And yet once they reached San Francisco, Dean deserts both Marylou and Sal. Marylou also says she wants to be with Sal yet she leaves him after awhile. So, any thoughts about who Dean really likes and what this whole jumble of relationships is?
Also I think one reason why Sal is sad and there is so much sadness throughout the book is because he cannot find a girl that he likes or will stay with him. Marylou leaves him and he can see it won't work out with Lucille.
