It's really so infuriating to see how little respect women get from any of the Beats. They seem to be more objects than anything else. Ed Dunkel dumps his wife in Tucson. Dean cheats on Camille with Marylou. Dean asks Sal to get with Marylou just to see "how she is with others." And this is just in Part 2! There are more examples in Part 1 (Terry, Marylou again, etc.) Does this not bother anyone else? Carlo is annoyed by it, obviously, but the rest of the gang seems to have no problem with it. The Beats claim to be influenced by Walt Whitman, but they seem to lack any of the reverence Whitman held for women.
