In response to what Jane said about Sal going along with the bad things Remi does, I believe he has a lot of trust in Remi. Although some of his ideas and his tendency to steal seem dishonest, Remi seems like a much deeper character. At one point, Sal says "I really loved Remi and I was one of the very few people in the world who knew what a genuine and grand fellow he was." (page 77) Possibly Sal's trust in Remi is one of his flaws, but there are hints Kerouac gives on Remi's character; his last name for example, Boncoeur, means "good heart" in French.
