As to what SVT was saying about how each man has his role, I found it interesting that when Sal tells Remi to stop stealing on p. 76 he claims "You can't teach the old maestro a new tune. This would seem to go against transcendentism, in that he is simply accept what he believes he needs to do as opposed to truly trying to find his place in society.
And for more symbolic naing, Sal Paradise is an obvious example. On p.62, Remi refers to Sal as "...The one and only indespensible Paradise." I think Sal is relatively sane compared to what his friends say and do, and considering thatthey ask his opinion, he may be almost like a haven of reality to these people who dont think at all of the consequences of their actions.
Another thing, Mr. Snow's name obviously contrasts with his dark skin, but also his laugh, which is his distinguishable characteristic. I think of snow of bland and colorless, while Mr. Snow has a great whooping laugh.
