I have to agree with Julia on the whole about the treatment of women.
Dean and Sal definitely treat women differently.
Dean=crazed man who loves everyone woman. For example, when they reached New Orleans; Dean was like a dog he looked out the window and kept saying I dig women.
Whereas Sal=nice type of guy who wants to settle down (actually not too sure about that) but he treats women with R-E-S-P-E-C-T compared to Dean. Like Terry as Julia said.
Although,
Sal and Dean seem really different, they do share a similarity which binds them together. They both lust for being on the road and moving. The road possesses a straightforwardness that is arduous to find elsewhere in their lives. Also, the fact that Dean asked Sal to sleep with Marylou shows the amount of trust he has in Sal.
Finally,
I LOVE how both Sal and Dean really have no idea who Ed Dunkel is, even though they are on the road together.
