I definately love the page-long (p188) description of Dean's injuries. Perhaps he has finally got what's been coming to him (not that i like when people are repeatedly inflicted with pain or anything) but it seems to me that this, coupled with Camille throwing him out (FINALLY) should be the knock on his bottom that makes him stand up straighter. Maybe. But knowing Dean, maybe not.

One part that was a bit ironic was that Dean called Sal "gone", which used to be what they called poor little harlots in the gutter or women who were just toted along by "their men". Not exactly a character trait one would want in his best friend...I think it just shows how Dean takes advantage and mistreats people without them really realizing it for a while...

Something I thought was rather interesting-- on page 187 Dean is kind of going into one of his little "theories about life" rants and he's talking about how he always "dug" Sal and tells him that "now in fact you're ready to hook up with a real great girl if you can only find her..." and it seems rather contradictory. Maybe Dean hasn't met the "right girl" yet, but he isn't exactly one to talk about functioning relationships. I can't tell what kind of tone he means when at the end of this little speech he says "...and make her mind your soul as I have tried so hard with all these damned women of mine. Shit! Shit! Shit!" ...what emphatic point were the last three words trying to make? Maybe those should have just been his parting words on the way to the loony bin, or maybe hes cursing himself for being such a prick? nah...silly feminist and her wishful thinking.
