Well a few things...
First, in response to Atid's thoughts about Sal's nature and considering the paradoxes of the Beat movement, I think that it's an interesting point. Since Sal is based on Kerouac himself, we as the readers, get a view from Kerouac's point of view so it'd be prudent to consider things that Kerouac inspired and what inspired him, such as the Beats, yet:

With their spontaneous poetry and intellectual ideas, it surprises me that they hitchhiked and the like.

However, I disagree that it creates this conflict of ideas because the idea of hitchhiking and the like are rooted in this idea of spontaneity and intellectuality is this sort of undefinable mass that people try to achieve but the means to achieve this end is different.

Also, I liked this quote on page 94: "manana, a lovely word and one that probably means heaven. " It seems like this means that tomorrow holds so many possibilities, but these possibilities could be deceptive.

Totally beastly quote.
