So I found this new part of the reading pretty interesting.
First of all, I cannot tell you how happy I was to read about Camille throwing them out. It was about time! I know we discussed in class that this was similar to the times, but I was still getting very frusterated with the women in the book for just letting the men string them along. Finally, a women who could stick up for herself! :)
I also found Sal's perspective on African Americans very interesting. He seems to envy them and think that they have a much simpler life that is more joyous. However, this struck me as odd, because no one is forcing Sal to keep travelling. At times, it seems as though Dean is persuading him to go somewhere, but many times Sal travels of his own accord. This longing for a simpler life seemed interesting to me, because it seemed like a side of Sal that we had not seen as much of. I think for Sal, the saying "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" is so true. He's always looking for what he doesn't have, and when he finds it, he wishes he had something else. This is a character trait that is applicable to most people, so it was nice to see it in a character that many times I find I cannot relate to.
I wonder if Sal will ever be happy?
