Oh Dean...

..Am I the only one who thinks Dean is a psycho? I feel like he is the person Kerouac wishes to be- constantly appearing to be on a drug binge and never staying in one place for too long. When he explains to Camille why he's leaving the reaction was "and of course it made no sense" (111). Everything he does is a little off, has a little trick attached to it that only a person like him could get away with.
Sal also mentions how Dean has matured. I could not disagree more. Dean has left his wife and now daughter after buying a beat-up old truck with all of the money he had been saving for the past year just so he can drive across the entire country to pick up Sal and then bring him back to California, also bringing back Marylou who he's decided to re-announce his undying love for. And ol' Ed Dunkel, without a care in the world, blindly follows. I dont think that constitutes maturation...?
