I'm sure you all saw it too, unless you haven't read it, but there were so many Grapes of Wrath references in and around the last 2 chapters. I read it over the summer, so it's still pretty fresh in my mind (sort of.) I dunno sorry I just thought was cool 'cause i really liked Grapes of Wrath, and I started feeling a bit nostalgic...sort of.
I don't agree with that Sam, I think the view of women is different from character to character. I think for Sal women and and love are important in his life, and for others, like Dean, they are are objects. I think that whole concept of demeaning women plays a large role in definining characters, and evoking emotion in the reader. I mean, we aren't going to like a womanizing Dean, obviously, and it would be very difficult to emotionally associate with him. Sal, however, is a more likable character for his attitude about women. I mean he might hit the bars a lot to "pick up" chicks, but we could see with his relationship with Terry, even though they picked grapes, made him better a person, and chilled him out, as opposed to the previous life he was living, moving all over the place, with nothing significant and meaningful in his life.
