Jane had a really good point that we do sometimes expect the worst and think the worst about other people and I also noticed that when reading about Sal and Terry. Even though we know not to judge people we do it anyways, it is almost an instinct for some of us.
Something that really stood out to me when reading was on pg. 68. Sledge was ordering people to come out of the door of a room or apartment and he was going to arrest one of them. Sal mentioned he was embarassed and everyone was blushing. He said, "This is the story of America. Everybody's doing what they think they're supposed to do." This is another example of transcendentalism. Sometimes people think what they should do is follow others and I do not mean we should not look up to our role model's but if everyone tries to be each other then we are not being individuals. And as we all know the individual is stressed in transcendentalism.
