About the women, it is a little shocking to see women being treated to poorly in the book. It was especially odd in the scene where Dean asked Sal to, "try out" Marylou. I mean, what on earth?! Is this his expression of love? And of course Marylou didn't mind, she was planning on sleeping with Sal anyway.
It's unfortunate that we aren't given insight as to what goes on through any of the women's minds. I'd be interested to know why Marylou is first of all ok with allowing Dean back into her life, and second, not caring all that much about the arrangement that will happen with Dean bouncing back and forth between the two women again. I wouldn't be surprised if Dean gets bored with both women and finds an entirely new one.
It's a possibility that this womanizing attitude will rub off on Sal and instead of his current wish to find a wife now, he'll start having multiple affairs since thats what his lifestyle of choice has in store for him. After all, how could he possibly have a wife and family, and even a house to settle down in if he's so eager to travel all over the country and take in as many experiences as possible.
