Ahh, what's new, Sal and Dean have decided to not go to Italy after all. I mean how were they planning to pull that one off.
Anywho, I have grown to not like Dean so much. I know it was apparent about the feelings everyone had towards him in class, but I mean he has now gone to far with the whole Inez thing.
How can girls be so attracted to him and not see him for what he is? Well, I guess that I shouldn't say that because my parents always told me that I was going to meet this guy one day who they think is bad; but I think he is amazing. Then, later on I will look back at it and say they were right. The reason for that was because they have EXPERIENCE right. Well, for a guy who gets around with the ladies and definitely has experience, I think he would have learned something by now. But NO, there is Inez. AND POOR CAMILLE!!

I am just really frustrated with the fact that they decide to keep going back to the west when they don't really have a good time there anyway. UGH!!
Z
ok so here's a far fetched idea. remember that guy in the bar who just showed up with a trombone i think, and wanted to play with the band but they wouldn't let him and left, and he tried playing but nobody listened? and then followed the band? I feel like thats Sal. Tries to show up and talk, but gets beaten out by Dean and America and is left to try and toot out his little song, fails, and ends up following Dean around.

Also, Dean coming to see Sal out West is like this black cloud of doom that seems to be following Sal, a good time, but doom. I still love Dean though, he's way too interesting to hate. Poor women though, for allowing Dean into their lives while knowing he's THAT crazy, and shame too everyone for allowing that man to reproduce. Little Dean Jrs running all over the country! I wonder if there are a few out there now....
i haaate this book- ok, hate is a strong word... but not really dislike either.

it sort of reminds me of "the breakup" with I think Jen Aniston and Vince Vaughn? It's like, they have everything so planned out, and I mean in the movie, you're expecting them to get back together, all lovey-dovey, like every other chick flick, but then they're not going and it's just like, BAM-- what just happened.

I really wanted them to go to italy-- they even had everything planned out, they knew how they were doing financially and everything, but then they're just like, "no."

And to Sarah Cohen, I was SO thinking they were homosexual, especially since I think in class we discussed how the Beats had some homosexual thing going on. But, I thought I was the only person who was thinking that, so I disregarded the though. It really started in our reading from yesterday, how they were like, we'll be together forever *do a little dance*, but it's definitely coming out more as the book goes on...
haha sarah, i completely agree with you. i don't think ANYONE wants to know what kerouacs hiding from us. It's just one of those things you have to accept.

It was also completely surprising to me that Dean freaked out so much when a man started hitting on him. Considering he's so promiscuous and adventurous, I'm surprised he's not open to men. Maybe I'm wrong i dont know...

This may be a little bit inappropriate, but it's the truth: Dean's a whore. He's up to three kids already!! I feel so sorry for Camille and Inez that they can't realize, or didn't realize, what a terrible father and person Dean is. Now they're all stuck with no money, children, and no where to go. Dean has essentially ruined both their lives.
This might seem crazy but this whole thing of Dean and Sal never accomplishing anything sort of reminds me of when I was a kid and would watch cartoons like Roadrunner. No matter how many I saw, I always knew that the coyote guy was going to fail in his plans, but still got aggrevated when he couldn't do anything right. It's that kind of feeling, the one that goes *Ack. I know they're incapable, but maybe this time, maybe this time.*

Also, I'd just like to add that I found the scene of the mother chasing Dean with a shotgun - and getting high school kids to help her - hilarious.
"Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life." Sorry, I just thought that was a great quote.

Anyway, after reading Ginsberg's crazy poem, I just think that there's so much to being a Beat, and Kerouac misses much of it. So, I think that Ginsberg wrote his poem to show how limitless the Beats are, how much they can do. It's important to note that Kerouac is "defining a generation," therefore sort of limiting it with the matter-of-fact tone, whereas Ginsberg "describes" his generation with endless phrases, showing how free they were. In addition, he demonstrates the madness in general, while Kerouac is more interested in the specific relationship between Dean and Sal.
Nothing really new. Dean is a lazy inconsiderate man ho and we all hate him. It doesnt stop there. Sal still follows Dean around like a puppy dog and we all want him to get a life.

Okay, but here's something new. Do you think that Sal might be in love with Dean? Homosexually, I mean.

Also, I really liked the HUGE contrast between Ginsberg's poetry and Kerouacs writing- Ginsberg adds all the details, and Kerouacs pretty general. Reading this book after experiencing that poem earlier today really got me thinking- how much is Kerouac NOT telling us...?

Actually, I don't want to know.
